23 Reasons to be Grateful Today

  1. A visit from the local poultry
  2. My son called me three days in a row
  3. Dark chocolate is still on the healthy list
  4. Hot showers
  5. A mother who texts humorous life updates
  6. A husband who comes home every night
  7. A cat who enjoys catnip mice with abandon
  8. Fire season has moved outdoors
    backyard fire ring
  9. My friend has a new, healthy grandson
  10. The cheerful elderly gentleman sitting next to me at the hairdresser who said life was too short to waste it on complaints
  11. Wrens are making a nest in the birdhouse gourd on our deck
  12. Dishwashers
  13. A friend who hosts weekly Bible studies in her lovely home
  14. Free books
  15. Getting the timeline in my manuscript-in-progress straightened out (because editing sometimes causes as many problems as it solves)
  16. A pastor who laughs a lot more than he frowns
  17. Beethoven
  18. The oak blossoms are (finally!) finished

  19. A clam-bake to look forward to
  20. A library that is only 2 1/2 miles away
  21. My son’s mp3 player (from his middle-school years) that still works just fine

    I guess I’ve been in Montana too long. When I read “Fire season” (the image didn’t load in the email version), my first reaction was confusion. Here, fire season means late summer when the forests burst into flame, favorite recreation spots are closed, and the air is heavy with smoke.

      Ah, communication. How easy it is to misconstrue a seemingly innocent statement. Fortunately in PA we rarely have that kind of fire season.
