Into the storm
By late August I usually feel like the photo above. Can you relate?
Why do I wait until the end of August and then suddenly try to cram in all the things I still need to do before summer vacation is over?
I’ve had weeks to get around to back-to-school shopping, spending time with relatives, and finishing the yard work. But I didn’t get around to it, because there was plenty of time. Then I suddenly looked at the calendar and realized September will be here in a week, whether I’m ready or not.
Ack!
Surely some of you understand.
In my defense, we had less than three weeks this summer when both boys were home together, so we an excuse for cramming so much into the past few weeks. [And we’ve managed quite a lot, including a camping trip, a family reunion, two parties and a baseball game.] But I’ve been having oh-my-gosh-August-is-over-and-I’m-not-ready problems for many, many years.
Part of my problem is over-zealous expectations way back in May, when the whole summer stretched before us. So much opportunity, so many great ideas…
Then there’s this little word: procrastination.
Procrastination is like a credit card: it’s a lot of fun until you get the bill. Christopher Parker
You may delay, but time will not. Benjamin Franklin
Enough said.
Heading for calmer weather
Next week the house will return to an empty nest. I’ll be tackling all the things I’ve let slide while I was busy doing summer stuff with the family. In a week or two I will have approached empty-nest equilibrium–just in time to face a major September event and the beginning of holiday-planning-committee season.
How about you? Does back-to-school time make a difference in the tempo of your life, or are you able to coast along as before?
How do you combat procrastination?
