Why wait for the Big Summer Vacation to enjoy your summer? We can enjoy the small pleasures of summertime any day. Here are a few of the simple, everyday ways that help me enjoy summer.
- Wake up without the alarm
- Go barefoot
- Drink coffee outside while listening to the birds sing
- A morning walk with a friend before it gets too hot
- A visit from a Bald Eagle, bluebird, or some other uncommon critter
- Smile at the flowers (that are blooming nicely despite lack of attention since May)
- A bluebird sky, with only an occasional fluffy cloud
- Eat berries fresh from the farm stand (or your sister-in-law’s garden)
- The day is warm, but not blistering, with low humidity (As Baby Bear would say, the temperature is j-u-s-t right)
- A picnic lunch with your favorite summertime salad
- Watch small children playing in a sprinkler or fountain. Soak in their absolute delight with life.
- Daydream on a hammock or porch swing. (Writers call this working 🙂 )
- Take time for a yard game or a stroll in the park. (Croquet, anyone?)
- An hour or two of uninterrupted reading (while the kids play at the pool?)
- Enjoy a glass of iced tea (or iced coffee) while lounging on the deck
- Dinner on the grill
- Sweet corn
- A casual dinner, eaten outside in the company of friends
- Spit watermelon seeds over the deck railing
- Go out for ice cream
- Pay attention to the sunset
- Watch the fireflies flicker all around
- Tell tales around a backyard campfire
- Search out a constellation or two in the night sky (There’s an app for that)
- Fireworks
I hope you take time to enjoy some perfect summer moments! Don’t miss them.
