A few weeks ago I ran a survey to get some reader feedback about this blog. Here are the results:
If you missed the survey, you can still fill it out by visiting this survey page. I’ll be checking back periodically to view new entries.
Your Preferred Medium
You prefer reading blogs or listening to podcasts rather than watching videos. So, although you’d give Facebook Live a try, you’re happy to continue interacting with me through my blog. (This is a useful insight. Your input tells me that learning how to do Facebook Live or YouTube videos probably isn’t the best time investment for my audience.)
Why do you read my blog?
The top choices were to provide reminders of good intentional living practices and providing inspiration to grow and change for the better. However, several of you commented that you liked being encouraged and reading helpful tips and strategies as well.
What do you like best about my blog?
The top response: Because I provide good advice with a dash of humor. You also liked the mix of topics and my simple, clear writing style. Some of you would like to see more humor.
What are your biggest struggles?
Feeling too busy, stressed, and unorganized got the most votes, followed closely by Taking care of yourself. Low self-esteem and feeling worthless came in a distant third. You also commented that you struggle with loneliness and pushing yourselves out of your comfort zone.
Which mindset / attitude topics are you most interested in?
Eighty percent of you voted for topics related to authenticity and cultivating your unique gifts and dreams. Pursuing happiness and satisfaction in life came in second, followed closely by self-care and mental health. Many readers also voted for strategies to help with positive thinking, and overcoming the tough stuff like fear and disappointment.
Which practical living topics are you most interested in?
Your votes were more evenly split on this question. Habits, goals and time management, tied with Minimalism, decluttering and simplifying your home for top votes. But posts that deal with busyness, boundaries, and simplifying your lifestyle weren’t far behind.
What do you want to learn more about?
The survey results included the following:
- Practical actions for how to live more intentionally
- Tips for working from home, including balancing work vs home duties and self-care.
- How to say no. (Such a tough thing for so many of us.)
- Loving others who have radically different values and life philosophies.
- Meditation.
- How I became a published author.
Wow, quite a list. I have my work cut out for me! I’ll be working on these topics in the coming months, in balance with my new priorities for the kinds of subjects my readers want most.
What subject particularly inspires you?
The results here show that I was a bit too vague with this question, so some of the results are not subjects that fit my blog’s focus. While I may not write a blog on every topic readers listed, your answers may inspire me in some way. Who knows? I will be pondering all these answers in the coming months.
However, here is the list of answers that seems to fit the purpose and slant of Live Intentionally.
- Being more confident with myself and with life
- Being content with who you are and what you have
- How to do good and live justly
- Staying organized
- Recognizing lies for what they are and being able to live in truth
- Mindfulness
- Serving others
Putting it all together
A blog is a fluid thing, able to be refined and improved over time. This survey was designed to help me take the next step in refining my focus. Your answers guide me toward the topics that will be of the most benefit to you, my readers. So, to summarize the results, here are seven key areas I will continue to write about:
- Self-care
- Self-worth and purpose
- Authenticity and fulfilling your potential
- Mental health and positive thinking
- Simplicity and contentment
- Organization and time-management tips
- Increasing life satisfaction while reducing stress and guilt
The survey also helped me identify topics that aren’t at the center of my particular blog purpose. While I care about topics like the environment and social justice, they are not my primary focus. There are plenty of bloggers and websites that cover those topics better than I do, so in future I’ll leave it to them.
Coming soon to a blog near you:
I’ll also be working on the topics you suggested, such as finding balance while working from home or how meditation can aid self-care. Stay tuned!
