Back in June I wrote a brief Summer Manifesto—five goals for making the most of summer. I would say I have achieved moderate success in applying them to my summer so far.
But summer isn’t over yet.
My husband and I are about to embark on a two-week vacation to points north and I plan to put my summer manifesto goals into high gear.
We plan to spend a lot of time outside, enjoying the beauty of mountains, rivers and seacoast.
We will have plenty of time to have fun—exploring the scenery, learning about the history, discovering cool places to eat, and indulging in some favorite hobbies. (Such as hiking, fishing and reading.)
We plan to relax, spend time together, and generally take a break from the worries and responsibilities of normal life.
Which means we plan to disconnect from our electronic gadgets as much as possible. So I will not be keeping up with social media, or writing blog posts, or working on my various writing projects. My husband has agreed to limit his work emails, too.
Because the whole point is to get away from it all so we can recharge.
I’ll be back in a couple of weeks.
Until then, I leave you with this bit of inspiration:
I would rather be ashes than dust!
I would rather that my spark should burn out in a brilliant blaze than it should be stifled by dry-rot.
I would rather be a superb meteor, every atom of me in magnificent glow, than a sleepy and permanent planet. The function of man is to live, not to exist.
I shall not waste my days trying to prolong them.
I shall use my time. ~ Jack London
