Memorial Day is past. That means summer is here, whether we’re ready for it or not: Dinner on the grill. Hot and humid days. Vacations. Fireworks and fairs. Mosquitoes.
Are you ready to face it? I am.
Here’s a list of the things I’ve collected or prepared in anticipation of summer:
My summer survival list
- Books, the kind that are just for fun
- Sunscreen
- A new swim suit
- A pitcher of iced coffee
- Trail maps for the local parks
- Spare sunglasses
- A designated spot in the fridge for the container of fishing worms
- More books. The fun kind.
- A beach lounge chair for reading
- Clip-on sunglasses for my reading glasses
- Craft supplies. I always start the summer with high hopes…
- A serious book or two. For balance.
- A list of home improvement projects. If they’re on a list, at least there’s a chance.
- Calendar dates marked for celebrating a milestone birthday and a family reunion
- A watering can, to keep my hanging baskets alive. As dry as it’s been here, this may be my big challenge for the summer.
- A second refrigerator for all the excess garden produce
- Freezer bags
- A pile of recipe clippings for summer salads and grill marinades.
- …and new ways to use zucchini
- A list of books I might want to read, in case I run out
- Camping supplies
- A box of graham crackers and a bag of marshmallows. Just in case.
- A new lighter for the grill
- A supply of grilling beverages (for the cook—this is a critical step in properly prepared grilled cuisine)
OK, you get the idea.
So, what’s on your summer survival list? What do you hope to accomplish this summer?
What is it you won’t be able to live without?
Happy summer. 🙂
